PRADHAN KARMA OR SHODHAN CHIKITSA
1) VAMANA

INDICATIONS-
Thetreatment is recommended fordiarrhea dysentery, dysentery, feversfrom recent causes such as cold, coughthyroid disorder,urinary tractdisorder anorexia, skin disorders, respiratory disorder, indigestion,fibroid, goiter, filariasisand more.
CONTRAINDICATIONS-
Patientswith kapha dosha belownormalshouldn’t undergovammanatherapy.Women who are pregnant, not havingsnehana karma, strong agni(digestive system) people who arestressed, hungry and children, elderly, weak person, enlargedspleen, intestinal parasites,larger prostate and othersin these situations, vamana karmamust be avoided.
2) VIRECHAN
Virechan (purgation)is the second form of karmainpanchakarma. It isone of the most widelyused therapy, especially inconditions caused by anPitta dosha imbalance. The pittadosha is eliminatedin a forceful manner through the anal channel.The doshas get eliminated withless strain and with less complications whenthan vamana karma. Itcould also be administeredinvata-pitta or pitta-kaphadoshas in which pitta is the dominant. Thetherapy requires the following of aeating regimens to attain thenormaldiet , and then completethetherapy.
HERBS USED AS VIRECHAK DRAVYA
Virechan drugs include milk, takra, gavakshi, vacha, punarnava, shala, panchmoola, saptala, haritaki, kashmarya, draksha, jyotishmati, vibhitaki, amalaki, abhaya etc.
Based on the medication administeredvirechan may be of two kinds2 types
1) Snigdha virechan- meaning ofthe word “snigdha” isoily. It isa reference to pitta when itisassociated withvata dosha.
2.) Rooksha virechan- itcan be identified when pitta has beenrelated to kapha dosha.
INDICATIONS
Virechanis often associated withconstipation, gout, piles jaundice, liver diseases and splenomegaly. Ascites,dysuria, pain in largeintestinal tract, urogenital diseasesystem inmale and female as well as nasal bleeding.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Poor digestive system, diarrhea and dysentery as well as ulcersin the rectum, emaciatedpersonafter excessiveOleation treatment, injuries etcaresome of the situations wherevirechanis not recommended.
3) BASTI KARMA
Inolden daysthebladder (basti) wasutilized as anequipmentforenema.So the name for theprocedure is basti Karma.
Basti isa particular treatmentthat is used inayurvedic panchakarma.The medicated ghee,oil, decoction etcare administeredvia rectal,vaginal and urinary routes.
